This envelope security pattern is more intricate than it looks.  The blue marbling is printed over a grey pattern.  This is done to add an extra layer of security.

This seamy scene was seen in the street beneath our feet.

The sidewalk seam did not prevent the crack from spreading; it just moved over a bit and continued.

Sitting at a siding

This 1952 vintage boxcar was originally with the New York Central and more recently known as BCLR 4001.  Now grey-painted, this 40-footer is seen at the Pier siding.  Here it is presented as a relaxed view 3d stereograph.

Subtley Rothko

This "Gray on Grey" work takes the idea of Mark Rothko to another dimension with its strong and bold verticals and subtle horizontal repeating patterns.

 

 

 

 

Orange and grey

 

Even with the outside and inside signage, the food service equipment, and the customer seating having been removed, this combination of grey and orange interior colors in this closed establishment readily identify it as once having been a franchisee of a multinational doughnut cookery and coffee dispensary chain.

What's behind door color "Red"?

The newly painted in red door stands out against the grey of the granite walls that surround it.  

One notes that the granite blocks around the door are all cut clean and squarely; the remainder of wall is composed of rubble blocks.

The rust patches add a little color to the grey barn boards and silver roofing tin.

The cracks in the paint are more noticeable when seen up close.

The windows on this former dairy barn provided light and air.  That they are mismatched never seemed to bother the cows.

The grey paint on the rear door of a commercial building has become streaked with time.

A swipe of light yellow brightens up this study of sky blue on grey.

The cover up paint used to cover up grafitti never seems to match the wall color.  This series of graffiti coverups conjures up a mural by Mark Rothko.

Wall painters often unknowingly emulate the artwork of Mark Rothko.

Knot grey

New barn boards 

The new barn boards eventually turn silver grey.  "New" is a relative term for a hundred plus year old barn; these are about twenty years old.

Probably fake

Paintings by well known artists are sometimes faked.  It often is difficult to discern if one is seeing a fake or a real.

In this case, we can be fairly sure that this is not by Mark Rothko.  Rothko always painted on rectangular canvases, and this is a quadrilateral.  But here, maybe he was exploring new shapes, possibly polygons?  One wonders.
