This graffiti cover up is somehow reminiscent of the continent of Africa.

Air vent cover

Vent cover with 24 holes

This 12 x 8 x 4 hole air vent cover was made by Weber and Hamilton.  They were a plumbing firm that performed sanitation, engineering, and contractor work.  They were located at 56-58 Hallett Street in Long Island City, which is now somewhere near 21st Street,  21st Drive, 21st Road, and 21st Avenue, but probably on 23rd Street.

At one time, they well known enough for them to place an ad in the section of the December 1, 1926 issue of "Variety" that congratulated Adolph Zukor on fifteen years in the motion picture industry.

Variety (issue dated Wednesday, December 1, 1926, page 134)

Hallett Street was in Queens in Long Island City Ward One:

Queens, Vol. 2, Double Page No. 10; Part of Long Island City Ward One

Across the top of the vent is:  "WEBER & HAMILTON, INC." and the bottom has  "PLUMBERS.".

Double gas

Two gas covers

Another two gas covers

The recently installed gas lines resulted in two gas utility covers and many arrows.  The covers are Bingham and Taylor "B&T GAS USA" types.  The "A" arrows are apparently aligned with the underground utility paint markings.

G for gas

"G" gas cover

This "G" cover could be an old style gas utility cover.  It was a surprise to see it in the street beneath my feet.

Dimpled water cover

Water cover with dimples

Slight variations in the manufacturing and casting processes produces slightly different water covers.  This cover has slight dimples above and below the "T".  As opposed to the water covers shown here or here or here.

Sixty ninety five

Building number 60-95

The numbers on the garbage cans are the house number of the building to which the garbage cans belong.

Of interest is how those numbers were put on to create such a unique look?  White paint with black over paint?  Or?

Update - the paint looks like white spray paint with black over paint.

Mill corridor

Hallway and doors

Long corridor

The empty corridors of a mill can be more interesting than what is at the mill.

The "Long corridor" is a 3d relaxed view stereograph.
