This red door at the back of the building is seldom seen.  This scene is of more interest than what is seen at the front of the building.

 

 

 

Cracked door paint

 

Originally grey

 

At one time, the paint on this door was pristine and grey.  Now it is cracked and faded and discolored and dirty - and intriguing.

The south entrance of this United States Custom House and Post Office building is presented as  relaxed view 3d stereograph.  

 

The entrances to the building are flanked by bronze lamps.

 

Imposing 

The lamps are almost 6 feet in height.  The big panels of textured "glass" in the lamp are now plastic.  The original glass was curved, as is the plastic that is in there now. When the original glass was damaged, it may have been too costly to repair or replace it with the same curved and textured glass, or to even find a replacement for that style of glass.

The entrance doors have their PULL door plates.  These inform the patrons to "pull on the handle".

The brass work on the table top shows signs of former accoutrements.

Patrons can gaze out the window as they use the table.

 

This main post office building was completed in 1931.  It was modeled after the main building of the United States Postal Service in New York City, now known as the James A. Farley Building.

The marble stairway leads up to the main floor.  The door on the left leads to a plain stairway that goes down to a sub-basement.  Both this floor and the sub-basement are accessible by taking a self guided tour of the building.

 The sliding door at the side of the barn will soon be overgrown by the grape vines.

 

Hidden grafitti

 

What's that say?

 

Written on the steel basement doors of a discount store, and hidden by the store's outdoor merchandise stand, years later this graffiti remains pristine, and, still as undecipherable as when it was first written.

The side door of this capital building is just as impressive as the front, even if it is not used for entry.

 

 

 

Fresh paint on faded

The sun-fading of the wall paint is made evident when the original color paint is used to touch up the wall around the door. 

It appears that the touch up painter did not cover up the rust streaks below the door.

Reflection of what is behind

The freshly painted in black back wall of the shopping center invites a relaxed view 3d stereograph of the rear doors of an establishment there.  Reflected in the glass is a portion of the scene behind the photographer.

What's behind door color "Red"?

The newly painted in red door stands out against the grey of the granite walls that surround it.  

One notes that the granite blocks around the door are all cut clean and squarely; the remainder of wall is composed of rubble blocks.

The paucity of persons at this art exhibition permits the uninterrupted enjoyment of the gallery light, shadow, and space.  Indeed, those prove to be more agreeable that the exhibit itself.

The grey paint on the rear door of a commercial building has become streaked with time.

This basement door painted yellow was a surprise.

They are usually painted black.  Sometimes, they are left 'au naturel'.

No parked automobiles allows this shaded sidewalk scene to be fully enjoyed.

Two mops at the back door

Two mops have been hang out to dry at the corner of the building where the delivery truck missed the turn and hit the building, damaging some of the cinder blocks; those have since been replaced but have not been painted.

Not in use 

Although it is no longer used, the steps and the doorway are periodically painted and swept so they are in harmony with the rest of the storefront.

After a building is built, additions are often added.  Some of those additions are used and then not used.  These can result in convoluted corners and painted shut doors.
