After their exciting visit to the Big City, these potted plants sit in the shade, waiting for their ride back to the farm.

The shadow cast by the setting sun can make a person seem just a bit taller than they really are.  This shadow panoramic was created from two images of the street beneath our feet.

The paucity of persons at this art exhibition permits the uninterrupted enjoyment of the gallery light, shadow, and space.  Indeed, those prove to be more agreeable that the exhibit itself.

A brief moment in time

Thirty seconds before this photo was taken, the shopping cart was not there; the customer who used it had not yet left it there.  Thirty seconds after this photograph was made, the shopping cart was not there; a gust of wind had blown it away.  During that brief moment in time when it was there - the color standing out against the drabness, the basket casting an almost moire shadow - that moment has been saved to be savored.

When you look at the light-shade boundary between the shaded and the lit areas, there seems to be a narrow band of shade on the shadow side of the boundary that is darker than the rest of the shaded area.   Likewise, there seems to be a narrow band of light along the lit side of the boundary that is brighter than the lit area.

The light-shade boundary itself is not sharply defined.

A street sign casts a strong shadow in the afternoon sun.  The holes in the pole cast their own shadows.

This 6x6 squares square sewer grate gleams in  the sunlight from being polished by rubber tires.

The shadows cast on the street beneath our feet by the ironwork baskets in the gate do not look like the ironwork baskets in the gate.

The lighting in the museum gallery created an interesting interplay of shadows around the ever watchful security camera up in  the corner.
