Pulpit and Jack

 

A close-up view of a Jack in the Pulpit.  From its colors and striping, this may be the Arisaema triphyllum.  The spathe (the "pulpit") surrounds the spadix (the "Jack"). As the fruit ripens, the red berries appear.

Berry very purple

 

Red and black berries

 

A black raspberry (Rubus occidentalis) bush shows its red and black (more like a very, very dark purple with red) berries.

 

Black is better

 

This cluster of black raspberries show the different stages of ripeness.  The darkest berries are the ripest and the sweeter and juicier they be.  The red, not so at all, even though they resemble ripe red raspberries.

A flighty butterfly that does not sit still long enough to be photographed does one and gets the other.

Gingko or ginkgo?

Fallen onto the sidewalk of the street beneath our feet, this ginkgo biloba leaf glows neon green.

Flaunting foliage

Alone in color

There always seems to be that one tree that does not want to shed its leaves.  This maple continues to flaunt its colors long after the others in the grove have dropped theirs.

The curves and spikelettes at the center of the aloe plant have their own shades of green.

How it spreads

Reach out and grow somewhere!

The vine of an unknown plant seeks fertile ground where it can take root.

p.s.  That may be a Japanese Knotweed?

Leafed behind

...last leaf fallen...

Some leaves, when they fall off their tree, hit the pavement so hard that they leave an imprint.  This red one was too light to do that.
