Sidewalk cutout

sidewalk with square

A piece of this sidewalk was neatly cut out and removed, then in-filled with an asphalt mix.

What was there?  why was it removed?  was anything removed?  why asphalt mix and not concrete?  was something supposed to be added?  the blue markings - was that a water utility?

 So many questions...  no answers.

Shadows and grey

The low angle of the sun highlights just the tops of these snow coated trees; the rest of this scene is in grey shadow.

Shiny bright

A freshly paved street does not warrant a brand new manhole cover.

Buffed bright

This cover has served faithfully for so many years that the raised surface has been buffed to a gleam.  Sunlight reflecting off the cover makes it stand out against the freshly laid asphalt.

Look at the lock

Lock stuck

No doubt this lock fell off the back of a truck when it hit a bump in the road.  By happenstance, it fell into an crack in the road.  The passing wheeled traffic pressed it into the summer heat softened asphalt, embedding it firmly in the road where it stays, stuck.
