A Bombus auricomus (black and gold bumblebee) flies in for a closer look at the pollen in this narcissus (daffodil).

p.s.  it decided against going in.

Many items are measured "by the ...".  These crocuses, and a few snowdrops, are "by the step".

Not much else to add, except that the snow melted by the afternoon.  Those two photos were taken in mid morning, when the sun had come out.

Early in the morning, it was still cloudy.  The daffodils were covered by the snow.
