Four in the floor

These four covers are not really in the "floor", but in the street beneath our feet.

Square grid manhole cover

This manhole cover sports a simple square grid pattern which adds texture and reduces the risk of slipping when wet.

Diamond grid electric access cover

This manhole cover indicates that it provides access to the electric cabling that is below ground.  The oval identifier is a nice contrast to the diamond grid pattern.  The cracks in the sidewalk look like electric arcs that have been frozen in the sidewalk.

Eight holed sewer cover

The eight ventilation holes and the ribbing combine to create a simple pattern.

Gas box cover

The raised "B & T" and "GAS" lettering and ribbing get rubbed and buffed by tires.  "B&T" stands for Bingham & Taylor, who have been in the business since 1849.

  1. That is a nice set of covers. There is a certain rhythm to them, the way they are arranged.
